Itinerary

📍 Cycling distance up to: 30 km Difficulty: Easy

Hue is one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam and served as its political capital from 1802 to 1945 under the rule of the Nguyen Dynasty. To this day, the city remains one of Vietnam's most important cultural, religious, and educational centers. Hue was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1993 and attracts visitors from around the world.

Today the cycling begins from the hotel exploring some of Hue’s most important cultural sites. The first stop is at the Imperial Citadel, which is modeled after the Forbidden City in China. While much of this site was destroyed during the Tet Offensive, it is still possible to gain some insights into how the Royal family lived during peak rule. After exploring the ruins, cruise along the Perfume River to Thien Mu pagoda, continuing the cycling to Ming Mang mausoleum. Follow up with a loop across the perfume river to Hue via the mausoleum, with another stop at Khai Dinh.

📍 Transfer: 1 hour Cycling distance up to: 100km Difficulty: Hard

Take a bus beyond the city limits of Hue to avoid the busy traffic. Begin riding off the beaten track for 40 km along a picturesque, narrow peninsular road from Thuan An beach to Vinh Loc. From here, transfer to a vehicle or cycle to the start point of today’s three hill climbs!

After the first two moderate climbs of 2-3 km a piece, cruise down to stunning Lang Co Beach for a rest/swim and lunch before tackling the final hill of the day – the Hai Van or Pass of Ocean Clouds. With a new tunnel now cutting through the mountain, the 11km of uphill cycling will be on a quiet section of road. The gradient is manageable and the views are breathtaking! Upon descent, a transfer will be provided all the way to Hoi An, a delightful old trading town and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

📍 Cycling distance up to: 50km Difficulty: Medium

After spending the night in Hoi An, depart in the morning on a cycle for My Son, the ancient spiritual centre of the Cham kingdom. The ride is worth the effort and is arguably one of the best rides of the trip. To avoid the highway’s traffic, there will be a brief transfer outside of town before cycling along scenic country roads surrounded by rice paddies, eucalyptus forest, and many scenic villages. The road climbs away from the coast with some excellent viewpoints available from the mountain top.

During the cycle, the road cuts through a gorge leading to the lush jungle alongside the Song Tranh River, eventually arriving to My Son. Despite many temples being destroyed during the war, there is still enough of the archaeological site to impress most visitors. Before visiting the site, enjoy a local lunch nearby. In the afternoon, transfer by bus back to Hoi An. Spend the rest of the day wandering around and enjoying the charm of Hoi An’s old town.
