Itinerary
📍 HCMC to Cai Be (100km): 2 hours
Today’s tour starts at 08:30. Leave the busy streets and modern buildings of Ho Chi Minh City behind to drive 2-hours southwest of the city to the verdant Mekong Delta.
Upon boarding at the dock in Cai Be midday, enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and get acquainted with the crew before checking into the cabin. This leisurely cruise aboard the charming Bassac Boat is the perfect way to see the Mekong Delta.
Begin the journey by cruising towards the delightful Cho Lach district along the Tien Giang River. Lunch will be served whilst taking in the verdant tropical scenery from the deck. As the boat slips into a small canal, witness the river traffic, passing markets, local homes and the occasional historic church.
Mid-afternoon, the boat will drop anchor for an on-shore visit. Choose an option to either walk the village roads and see the peaceful life in the Delta’s countryside, the rice fields, fruit trees and meet the locals, or take a short cycle of the surrounding area. Afterwards, return to the boat, relax on the deck while catching the last light of the day.
A scrumptious dinner will be served as the boat cruises along the Mang Thit River to the anchorage point for the evening.

An early breakfast will be served while the boat cruises to Can Tho City. En-route observe the life of the locals and how they make their living as the boat winds through the maze of the delta. Can Tho is the largest city in this area and the fourth largest city in Vietnam. The name of the city, which means ‘river of poems’ in Vietnamese, refers to its location in the Mekong Delta region.
On arrival, disembark and board a smaller local boat to explore the Cai Rang floating market. The waterway becomes a frenzy of boats, both tourist and traders. See local produce depending on the season for sale - mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even floating coffee sellers and noodle soup vendors.
Continue by boat to a village where a family run workshop will be visited, before returning to the city’s main pier for a short drive to the hotel (note that the standard check-in time is 14:00).
Spend the afternoon cycling around the quiet lanes and unhardened paths of Can Tho. The small farms, rice paddies and cottage industries are waiting to be explored. The rest of the day is at leisure.
