Discover one of Thailand’s best kept secrets. Venture to a quiet corner of the north where the sleepy town of Chiang Kham awaits. Spend two days biking along quiet lanes, meeting friendly locals and discovering ancient temples and unspoiled nature.
Early in the morning, depart from Chiang Rai with your Exo Travel guide and transfer south for about an hour and a half toward Phayao Province. Pass through the vast plains of rice fields until you arrive at Rico Resort, located near the small town of Chiang Kham.
Upon arrival at the resort, enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and a delicious meal at Rico’s restaurant, overlooking the rice fields. After lunch, prepare for a cycling adventure—put on your helmet and set off through a local village to visit the Thai Lue weaving house. Observe the locals at work and learn about the art of weaving.
Continue cycling to visit Wat Nantalam, a Burmese-style teakwood temple, before riding on to Wat Pha That Doi Kham, a modern-style temple also known as the “Temple of the Golden Mountain.”

After breakfast, hop on your bike and follow your guide along the backroads through the rice fields surrounding the resort. Cycle off the beaten path until you reach Wat Phra Khaew, a temple over 400 years old where the Emerald Buddha was once housed for an unknown period. Make a short stop at one of the largest Bo trees in Chiang Kham and Thailand. Continue your cycling journey off the beaten path, winding through lush jungles, shaded rubber tree plantations, and vibrant vegetable patches before arriving at the serene Huay Sa Reservoir. Here, or at a peaceful local temple nearby, you will pause to relax and enjoy a hearty picnic lunch surrounded by nature.
In the afternoon, the cultural exploration continues with a visit to the famous Wat Pha Nang Din. This temple is renowned for its unique Buddha image seated directly on the earth, as well as its breathtakingly elaborate Chedi (stupas). Next, immerse yourself in the vibrant local lifestyle with a stop at the bustling afternoon vegetable market in Ban Chayaphrom.
Depending on the day's activities, you may also have the optional opportunity to visit the Wat La temple to watch the talented artisans of the Thai Leu weaving group at work. Finally, conclude your immersive full-day journey with a peaceful, golden-hour bike ride back through the rice fields to the comfort of the Rico Resort.

Morning breakfast and relax by the pond before checking out and transferring back to Chiang Rai via Phayao town. Stop at Lake Phayao, which offers a wide range of freshwater fishing opportunities.
Next, visit Wat Si Khom Kham, located near the lake, featuring a 16-meter-high golden Buddha statue as its highlight. Following this, drive up the hill of Doi Bussarakham, approximately 17 km from town, to reach Wat Analayo, a must-visit temple in Phayao. This beautifully decorated temple also has areas for Buddhist instruction and meditation.
Continue to Chiang Rai and be dropped off at your hotel or Chiang Rai airport.
