Thailand - Hip and Chic Tour - 10 Days / 9 Nights

DAY 1 - Bangkok - Arrival MealsMEALS [D]

Begin this contemporary Thailand tour in the heart of it all: the capital city. Upon arrival at Bangkok Airport, greeted by a representative at the aircraft door or before entering the terminal area. They will assist with fast tracking immigration procedures and carrying the luggage. Once done, they’ll introduce the guide/driver who will facilitate the transfer via a private luxury vehicle. Free day at leisure.

Enjoy the first evening in the magical city of Bangkok, a legendary destination known from songs, films and countless travel tales. Today’s Bangkok nightlife tour runs through some of the city’s top highlights. Transfer to the luxury design hotel, Sofitel So Bangkok, and then enter its stylish Park Society Bar, where you will enjoy a glass of Mai Tai Sunset cocktail and 3 course western set dinner amid views over the central part of the city.

After drinking and eating, it’s time to indulge in some shopping. Hop on the BTS Skytrain and ride to the edge of the Chao Phraya River. Continue by riverboat across the water to the Asiatique Night Market. Browse the handicraft and clothing stalls, watch the local entertainment and enjoy the views of the river at night.

Return to the city centre around 22:00, heading back to the hotel or opting for more chances to sample Bangkok’s legendary nightlife.

DAY 2 - Bangkok MealsMEALS [B|L]

After a delicious hotel breakfast, meet with the guide and head out for a full day of sightseeing using public transportation. Walk to the nearest BTS Station for a short SkyTrain ride to the riverfront Saphan Taksin station. Continue by public boat to Tha Thien pier and disembark at Wat Pho, home of the Thai massage and reclining Buddha. Continue to the Grand Palace, the nation’s landmark, most revered royal monument and home of the mysterious Emerald Buddha.

Note: Appropriate dress is required for palace and temple visits (can be rented on site). Shorts, mini-skirts, tight-fitting trousers, sleeveless shirts or vests, and sandals are not allowed.

After the royal visits, take a tuk-tuk ride to the backpacker’s Mecca that is Khao San Road. Head back to the Thai Champs Elyseesi, Ratchadamnoen for a tuk-tuk cruise to the end of the avenue where the historical khlong (canal) Saen Saeb is located. Board the khlong ‘bus-boat’ and cross the city to the west. Disembark for a short walk in the Ratchathewi Boat Station to have lunch at Jim Thompson Restaurant which serves delicious Thai dishes.

Continue to visit Erawan Shrine, a Hindu shrine in Bangkok that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu creation god Brahma. After the visit, take some time to shop in one of the 5 huge shopping complexes of the area (Central World, Siam Square, Siam Centre, Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon); alternatively, return to the hotel by BTS.

OPTIONAL: Night Bites and Sights in the Village of Love

This evening’s tour will begin at 18:00. Fall in love exploring the flavors, spices and aromas of the city’s Village of Love, the historic Bangrak neighborhood. Experience how the locals live, eat and shop by taking part in unique local food tastings each packed with authentic history and intimate stories of the neighborhood.

EXO’s local experts will hand-pick food that is guaranteed to tickle the taste buds and share their intimate stories of Bangkok.

DAY 3 - BangkokMealsMEALS [B|L]

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, followed by a morning transfer to a ‘hip & chic’ Thai cooking class at Issaya Cooking Studio. The studio is the natural culmination of its parent restaurant, the renowned Issaya Siamese Club, the flagship restaurant of Thailand’s internationally acclaimed Chef Ian Kittichai. Enjoy the ‘Issaya Recipes Class’ with a 4-course menu from the Issaya Cookbook. The cooking class will take 4 hours. Enjoy lunch at the cooking studio or grab a bite from each dish during the course.

In the late afternoon, transfer to Chakrabongse House by Chao Phraya River to embark on a luxury speedboat for a 2-hour afternoon khlong tour, including a stop to Wat Arun, the famous Temple of Dawn. Enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine onboard during the tour.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Grab a drink at Octave Sky Bar in Marriott Sukhumvit which is a bar suspended in the sky providing panoramic views of Bangkok and the Chao Phraya river. Its enthralling ambience coupled with a seductive selection of the finest beverages, cocktails and appetisers in Bangkok makes this bar one of the most prised destinations in the city.

DAY 4 - Bangkok - Chiang Mai MealsMEALS [B|D]

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, there will be an airport transfer for the flight to Chiang Mai.

Upon arrival at Chiang Mai Airport, be greeted by a representative at the aircraft door or before entering the terminal area. They will assist with fast tracking immigration procedures and carrying the luggage. Once done, they’ll introduce the guide/driver who will facilitate the transfer via a private luxury vehicle.

Then continue into the old city for the beginning of an exciting Segway experience! Following a 15-minute introduction on how to use a Segway, take an unforgettable ‘glided’ tour on a personal transporter, the world’s first electric, self-balancing personal transport vehicle. Tour stops and locations may vary, but will include Chiang Mai landmarks such as Wat Phra Singh, Wat Phan Tao, Wat Chedi Luang, Tha Pae Gate, Wat Chiang Man and Three Kings Gate. Segways are a fantastic way to take a voyage through the culturally rich and enchanting city of Chiang Mai.

Begin the evening at a local temple, joining monks in their nightly chanting of prayer. Light some incense or burn a candle and experience this wonderful Buddhist event. From here, embark on a memorable dining experience at 137 Pillars. Stroll (or drive) over the bridge to the lively Warorot Market, a hub of local life bursting with fresh flowers and local street food stalls. The guide will help with the market explorations; top the experience off with some local Thai sweets, the perfect way to conclude the evening.

DAY 5 - Chiang Mai MealsMEALS [B|L]

Discover why Chiang Mai is known as ‘The Creative City of Thailand’. Depart from the hotel and transfer to the hip student area of Nimmanhemin where The University of Chiang Mai’s (CMU) Contemporary Art Gallery is located. This multi-level gallery showcases contemporary art displays by talented local artists. Walk through its halls and learn about life from a Thai artist’s perspective. From here, stop for coffee at either the award winning Ristr8to Latte Art Café or the quaint Din Din mud brick cafe. Continue the day to the Elephant Parade gallery for an opportunity to flex one’s creativity. Elephant Parade is a worldwide collection of hand-painted elephants that help fund the Asian Elephant Conservation Foundation. The painted elephants come in all sizes, the largest of which travels the world in an International Art Exhibition endorsed or painted by celebrities, designers and artists. (Note: CMU Art Gallery is closed on Mondays and public holidays.)

Lunch at a local restaurant.

In the late afternoon, drive up to the mountain temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the most famous landmark of Chiang Mai (1,676 metres above the city.) Climb up the staircase adorned with imposing nagas (mythical serpent-like creatures), to visit the exquisite golden pagoda. The sound of temple bells fills in the air and the view overlooking the city makes an irresistible photo opportunity.

DAY 6 - Chiang Mai MealsMEALS [B|L]

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and drive to a beautiful valley on the edge of Doi Suthep National Park where the Patara Elephant Farm is located. Founded in 2000, this elephant breeding program teaches visitors all about these majestic creatures, working under the   conservation philosophy ‘Extinction is Forever’.

Throughout the day, experience the life of a mahout (elephant owner), learning how to approach elephants in the bush, unchain, feed and bathe them. Once the elephant is ready, enjoy an exciting 1-hour bare-back ride through rice paddy fields to a waterfall with a picnic lunch served in the jungle. Ride to the farm and return back to Chiang Mai

DAY 7 - Chiang Mai – Phuket MealsMEALS [B|D]

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Full Day - Phi Phi Island by Speedboat (Join-In)

Depart from Dolphin Seaway Marina (Phuket Deep Sea Port at Ao Makham) and enjoy a spectacular view of the Andaman Sea. Made famous after the shooting of the motion picture ‘The Beach’, the crystal water of Maya Bay has become a must-see spot in Phuket. Visit the most beautiful bays,  Lho Sa Mah, Phi Phi Ley Cove or Monkey Beach; swim or snorkel in the sea surrounded by a myriad of colourful fishes. Have lunch at Tongsai Bay. Snorkel and sunbath on Bamboo or Khai Island before returning to Dolphin Seaway Marina. (L)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Full Day - Blissful Day at Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay, dotted with spectacular limestone islands jutting out from the emerald water, is a must-see for anyone exploring the region. Cruise privately through the picturesque bay in a traditional long-tail boat—a local experience slightly modified to enhance comfort and relaxation. Pass by the famed James Bond Island and take some photos to capture the memories of this remarkable place. Then explore pristine mangrove forests and dramatic karst formations as the cruise continues through the beautiful landscape.

Take a refreshing break and enjoy an invigorating swim in the emerald green waters. Arrive on a privately-owned island to enjoy an elegant and mouth-wateringly delicious barbeque picnic lunch, surrounded by the sweeping scenery of this exclusive and seldom-visited beach. This idyllic Phang Nga Bay tour awaits discovery and offers a scenic and relaxing day far from the tourist crowds! (L)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Full Day - Community Connection at Koh Yao Noi

Take some time out during the holiday and visit a local community to learn more about Thai culture. Travel to Koh Yao Noi, a small island which sits halfway between Phuket and Krabi in the middle of Phang Nga Bay. Spend the day with the villagers, learning about their daily activities and traditions such as fish farming, harvesting rubber and batik making.

Lunch is served in a local house by a local family. After lunch, there’s an opportunity to walk in the rice fields and see herds of cows and buffaloes grazing. A stop will be made at the local market before leaving Koh Yao Noi heading back to Phuket in the late afternoon. (L)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Half Day -  Street Food Tasting in Phuket Town

Experience the delights of Thai street food on this tour of Phuket Town, which will take guests to small side-street stalls. Many of the food stalls have been run by the same family for generations; families whose ancestors brought their culinary heritage to the island from places like India, China and Malaysia. They adapt their recipes to suit the local produce available and tweaking them slowly over time to please their customers, whilst absorbing other culinary influences in the process.

During the walk, guests will explore a variety of food displayed on stalls and carts. Enjoy a Phuket dim sum breakfast served with local coffee. Discover the concept of ‘khao kaeng’, local Thai food served on trays, and learn about the different kinds of curry pastes used in Thai cuisine. Continue the walk to the old Post Office Museum, then proceed to the historical avenues of the old town, grabbing a sweet roti along the way.

Moving onwards, delight the taste buds at a local food court and try the famous ‘Hokkien’ noodles and some satay. After that, visit a small food cart selling ‘ar-pong’ (fried crispy crepe), a local specialty not to be missed! Finally, the tour ends at a local downtown fruit market where guests will be able to sample the local tropical fruit and ‘khanom khai hong’, a round crispy snack. (L)

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Half Day - The Former Glory of the Old Phuket

Drive to a rubber plantation and learn how exactly the rubber is collected from the trees and the process it goes through. Then visit the gibbon rehabilitation project in Tong Sai National Park where a volunteer will explain all steps the gibbons go through before being brought back in the jungle. Before continuing, have a break to taste the traditional Phuket copi (coffee) paired with some local specialties. After that, take a guided tour through the Kathu Mining Museum to get a glimpse of the former glory of Phuket, its people, economy and history. Stop at a cashew nut factory and discover why cashew nuts are one of the most expensive nuts on earth. Continue to visit Wat Prathong, one of the oldest temples in Phuket to get a deeper insight in Buddhism. It’s the last place to visit today, and together with the guide, discover different Buddhist rituals to pray for good luck.

Set out into the big blue waters, ride the waves, stand-up paddle over the glassy water’s surface and soak in the tropical splendor in all its sun-kissed glory. Lessons with the professional instructor takes place right on the beach fronting the resort. The type of board to use depends on the season’s conditions.
