Escape to lesser-known Nan in the north of Thailand bordering Laos. Visit the iconic and ancient temples such as Wat Phumin, learn how to make chocolate from an organic cocoa farm and trek in the beautiful nature of Khun Nan National Park.
Upon arrival in Nan, meet your local English-speaking guide and begin exploring a recently designated area for sustainable tourism, promoting the concept of “Low Carbon Tourism in Nan.” (Please note: a morning flight to Nan is recommended.)
Stop at Wat Phumin, the most interesting temple in town and an ancient royal temple over 400 years old. See the famous mural painting, “The Whispering of Love”, also known locally as “Poo Man Ya Man”. Then continue to Wat Baan Phra Kerd for a Tung workshop. Tung means flag in Lanna culture. Participate in the workshop to make a Tung and offer it to the monk for blessings.
Next, drive to visit the Noble House, or Hong Chao Fongkham (closed on Monday and Tuesday). This teak house with a high basement was once owned by Chao Fongkham, a descendant of Chao Anataworarithidej, the 62nd Lord of Nan. The house now serves as a museum, displaying silverware, lace, water-line fabrics, and ornaments that reflect the prosperity of Muang Nan during those days.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, head to Pua. En route, stop at Wat Sri Mong Khol, where you can admire a stunning view of rice fields framed by mountains. Then make a stop at the Thai Architecture Museum.
Along the way, visit Tai Lue Café. Surrounded by endless greenery and rice fields, this café is a special spot for nature lovers. Arrive before sunset for the best weather and experience.
