Travel two hours east of Mandalay to the charming colonial town of Pyin Oo Lwin. Visit the iconic British Hill Station, see historical houses on a traditional horse carriage before taking an exhilarating train ride along the famous Gokteik Viaduct.

Itinerary

This morning the tour starts at 08:00.

Depart this morning from Mandalay on a scenic two-hour drive to the former British hill station of Maymyo, now officially called Pyin Oo Lwin. The town was originally built in 1896 and named after the captain of a British Regiment in Burma, Capitan May. Located on a plateau 1000m above sea level, most British civil and military offices moved here during the summer months to take advantage of the cooler temperatures.

Arriving in Pyin Oo Lwin, we’ll drive through the town and on to BE waterfalls. These falls are easily accessible by car and can be a quite popular destination on the weekend for locals. Wander across suspension bridges, browse through the stalls selling local fruit wine, and enjoy the sounds of laughter from the local children playing in the water beneath the falls.

From here, take a short drive to Maha Ant Htoo Thar Pagoda, home of the “Buddah who loved his country.” Originally sculpted in Mandalay, the large Buddah image inside the pagoda was on its way to China when it fell off the truck carrying it and slid down the mountain side. The truck driver claimed the Buddah image visited his dreams the night before and told him it did not want to leave Myanmar. After three years on the mountainside, the pagoda was built and the large Buddah statue transported to its current location.

Our next stop will be lunch at December Farms. Famous for its strawberry fields and dairy, December Farms also offers a restaurant on the sprawling property. You’ll have to opportunity to walk through the grounds and try some of their homemade ice cream.

This afternoon, enjoy a traditional horse and carriage ride through the town to see the historical houses including Candacraig, built in 1905.  Your horse and carriage will drop you off at the 175-hectare Botanical Gardens where you can take a relaxing walk through the beautifully-landscaped gardens. Then transfer to your hotel.

This evening, dine at Club Terrace Restaurant. Located in a Colonial Era home, this restaurant is known for being Pyin Oo Lwin’s most romantic dining option. (Client’s Account)
