Trek the historical route taken by the feared Kayan headhunters who raided the people of the Limbang area. Paddle up the Melinau River to Melinau Gorge and ascend Mount Api, 1,200metres above sea level to view the Pinnacles. 

Itinerary

📍 Transfer from Mulu Airport to Mulu National Park: (1.5km) 15 minutes Trekking time up to: 2-3 hours Difficulty: Easy

Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, meet the guide and receive a join in transfer to the hotel for check in. 

Depending on time of arrival, head to the Hotel to check in or straight to the National Park for the afternoons activities.  Take a 3km elevated plank-walk to Lang Cave -the longest cave passage in the world (2,161 metres long) – which adjoins Deer Cave. Explore Lang Cave with its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites before proceeding to Deer Cave, where the biggest attraction is a colony of thousands of free-tailed bat. At dusk, witness an amazing spectacle of nature as thousands of these bats emerge from the cave in formation to forage for insects in the rainforest. 

Experience night trekking through the jungle to the park headquarters. From luminescent fungi to blinking fireflies, the jungle comes alive at night time. This is a fabulous opportunity to view creatures not visible in daylight (Night Trekking option is available if staying in the national Park accomodation)

Afterwards, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the evening relaxing in tropical ambience.

📍 Transfer from Mulu National Park to Clearwater Cave by boat: 20 minutes Transfer from Clearwater Cave to Kuala Litut by boat:90 minutes (depending on water level) Trekking Kuala Litut to Camp 5 up to: (9 km) 2 - 3 hours Difficulty: Easy

After breakfast, which is accompanied by the sound of the jungle’s morning chorus, take a 15-minute longboat ride up the Melanau River to experience two more of Mulu’s ‘must-see’ limestone caves: Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. These form part of the Sarawak Chamber - the largest connected cave system in the world. If water levels are low, it’s also possible to get there along a beautiful a 4km hike. Explore the “King’s Room” before proceeding to Clearwater Cave. Walk on plank walkways that were built on the sides of limestone cliffs leading to Clearwater Cave. Then, climb up steep steps that were carved into the side of the hill to get to the entrance of Clearwater Cave. Inside the cave, check out the details of its various features and limestone formations. 


Enjoy a refreshing swim and local lunch before continuing by longboat to Kuala Litut to begin a hike through pristine lowland rainforest to Camp 5, a hike of around 9km. As this is a true wilderness camp, bedding is not provided -so be sure to bring a sleeping sheet and a warm layer for the cool nights. Befitting with the wild surroundings, accommodation for the evening is “spartan” -mats elevated on raised open-air platforms in a mixed-gender dormitory with shared bathroom facilities and cold water showers. Welcome to the jungle! Mosquito nets are available to rent for a small fee.

📍 Trekking Camp 5 to Kuala Terikan up to:6 hours Difficulty: Medium

Rise to the sound of the rainforest in all directions and enjoy a simple camp breakfast before beginning a 11.5km Headhunters Trek to Kuala Terikan. The path is so-named due to its history as a route taken by warring tribes between the Tutoh and Limbang Rivers. It is an adventurous route of water crossings by various methods and is characterised by a vegetation of low-lying forest.

After arriving in Kuala Terikan, board a longboat for a three-hour adventure up the Terikan and Medalam Rivers to an authentic Iban longhouse. If water levels are low, it may be necessary to push the boat across certain sections of the river -all part of the adventure! 

Stay in Medalam longhouse – this is newly constructed longhouse rather than a traditional one with basic facilities, enjoy some local Iban food and take a stroll around the village with your guide

📍 Transfer Longhouse to Medamit by boat: 1 hour 30 min Transfer Medamit to Limbang by road: 40 km (1 hour)

After breakfast, bid the Iban tribe farewell and take the boat to Medamit. From here, connect with land transport to Limbang Airport for the onward flight.
