Spend the evening exploring from one restaurant to another, seeing the influences of the melting pot of its multi-cultural background in its cuisine. 18:30 Meet the guide at the starting point to explore the streets of Malacca’s old UNESCO heritage town and experience the delights of Malacca cuisine.

Take a walk or get yourself a colorful rickshaw that takes you through the smaller streets of Malacca, a UNESCO Heritage City. Stop at a variety of local restaurants, some offer traditional Malay dishes while others offer culinary treats influenced by overseas traders who came to Malacca over the past 2,000 years. Run by the same family for generations these restaurants specialize in one type of dish, from Chicken Rice Balls to Cendol or Asam Pedas, making them true experts in their craft. 
Start with a Satay Celup served with a type of hot peanut fondue to dip the chicken and vegetable skewers in. With the piping hot aromatic peanuts and wide assortment of skewered meat and vegetables, it is one of Malacca’s signature dishes, so any trip will not be completed without savoring a taste! 

Next stop, a traditional clay pot specialty restaurant. Its dishes are loaded with a variety of spices, coconut-based sauces, meats and vegetables cooked in clay pots. The spices are roasted over a strong open fire, bringing out incredible flavors and aromas which one simply will not find at home. From Claypot to Tandoori, let your palate delight in the sumptuous aromas of Indian food. First coming to Malacca 2,000 years ago as spice traders, the Indians brought with them a form of cuisine where marinated meat is put on long metal skewers and is cooked over an intense fire in a clay oven.


Continue onwards to try the Chinese specialty dim sum, as well street food from a hawker stall that boasts a variety of Malay and Chinese recipes.  Continue to the old town and stroll through the heritage houses along Jonker street, before ending up at a picturesque cafe along the canal. Lined with street art, colorful lights and music playing from nearby bars, this is a fantastic spot to relax with a drink and muse upon the multicultural cuisines that people brought to this sleep world heritage town.

08.00 Visit key historical and cultural sites of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Malacca. Discover the diverse cultures of this former colonial outpost including the Peranakan culture, unique to the straits of Malaysia. 

Malacca is steeped in trading history, not surprising given its unique location along the vital Malacca Strait. The melting pot of cultures is the result of a unique history from the rest of Malaysia. Most notably, there is a substantial Portuguese and Dutch influence in the area. Just like other cities in Malaysia, Malacca ‘s history is best explored on foot (a trishaw can be used for this tour at an additional cost).

Meander through areas steeped in history starting at the oldest remaining example of European architecture in Southeast Asia, A Famosa, before climbing St Paul’s Hill to visit St Paul’s Church and descending to one of the best examples of Dutch colonial architecture, the Stadthuys - the former Dutch City Hall which is flanked by flamboyantly decorated trishaws.


Sample food at a ‘Teochew’ style restaurant in Malacca. This style of food is influenced by the Cantonese and often favoured for its light, healthy ingredients and modest spice. Taste a delicious warm Portuguese tart from one of the many nearby vendors.


Chinese immigrants were attracted to Malacca, a trading port, by the prospects of a new life and the possibility of making a fortune. Dominated by Chinses males, who often ended up marrying local Malay women, and their descendants became known as the Peranakans. Men were known as Babas while the women were Nyonya. Step into a House Museum of the same name, Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum, is a journey into the late 19th-century and early 20th century Malaya home. Still managed by the family and where four generations of straits-born Chinese family lived since 1861, this place honours the Peranakan spirit. 

Lunch break at Casa del Rio River Café. 

The River Cafe at Casa del Rio in Melaka is a casual, airy corner spot situated on the riverfront. With plenty of daylight and a laid back feeling, one can enjoy a relaxed lunch or afternoon tea featuring Nyonya dishes alongside traditional lunchtime or teatime fare. 

Continue walking through Malacca’s charming old quarters, visit some Chinese Clan houses one which is graced by a dragon relief pillars and admire the artistic crafts meeting the makers that are keeping age-old trades alive. In a century-old shop, Mr. Yeo Keng Yam, brightly coloured Nyonya beaded silk shoes including the tiny lotus feet keep a tradition alive. Just doors away is an exceptionally talented calligrapher that will write your name in Chinese characters using unique strokes along with a bit of a tale. Enjoy a visit to a Chinese tea house to learn and samples some Chinese teas. 

Stroll along stopping at a local Chinese shop to see the various types of incense that are made for the ancestors. In many Asian temples, huge coils of burning incense are suspended from the ceilings and large joss sticks smoke to purify the space. Select some simple incense sticks, whether coreless or ‘solid sticks’ and continue to the Chen Hoon Teng temple. This is one of the finest Chinese temples in Malaysia and is ranked among the most significant in Southeast Asia, due to its important to the spiritual aspirations of the Chinese community. This magnificent temple has been serving the Chinese communities religious needs since being founded in the 1600s by the Chinese Kapitan Tay Kie Ki. Its architectural design conforms strictly to the principles of feng shui and featured elements from three bays and non-circular columns add to its uniqueness. Par take in burning incense an ancient practice that continues to be part of Malacca’s living heritage and help purify the space of Chen Hoon Teng. Incense burning reminds people to burn themselves, to give, and to sacrifice along with purifying the space and focusing your mind.

Start the day visiting the colorful and particular Thean Hou Buddhist Temple; then you’ll follow the walking tour through the Lake Garden with its tropical nature and stop in front of the modern National Mosque and the old Railway Station all in white stone, built by the British. Move onto the historic colonial center Merdeka Square of town. Walk along an impressive array of architectural wonders, with buildings dating back to the late 1800s. The guide will explain the origins and influences that led to the development of the stunning facades.


Explore the interesting Islamic Museum Southeast Asia's largest museum of Islamic art and hosts the Quran and Manuscripts Gallery, the Islamic Architecture Gallery, the India Gallery, the Chinese Gallery, the Ancient Malay World Gallery as well as the reconstructed Ottoman Syrian Room.


Visit Masjid Jamek, also known as Friday Mosque, one of the oldest building in Kuala Lumpur which gracefully sits on the banks of two rivers. Wander around the mosque grounds, learning about Islam in Malaysia and the arabesque influences in its design.  (Note: Like any place of worship, dress codes need to be adhered to, with robes and headscarves provided. Visit not available on Fridays.) Then explore the vibrant streets around the mosque, where garland makers pedal brightly-coloured marigold offerings.

Visit Little India and discover a profusion of authentically Indian items such as assortment of sweetmeats, aromatic spices, exotic fragrances and dazzling adornments.  Don’t miss to catch local florist tying garlands at the flower shop. Next, visit the local Hindu temple to receive a blessing by the local priest. Not to be missed here is an opportunity to break a coconut for the deity.  In Hindu mythology, breaking of coconut symbolises the breaking of the ego. The coconut represents the human body and before the Lord it is shattered – breaking the ‘aham’ or ego and symbolically totally surrendering and merging with the supreme soul. 

Return to the hotel.

At 19.30, our driver will meet you at the hotel lobby for the dinner transfer at Tamarind Springs, well known for its romantic setting on the edge of a lush forest. Their fine-dining cuisine is specialized in Indochinese food.

08:30 From a variety of ethnic Chinese clan houses to streets full of Bollywood music and saris, Penang never fails to disappoint. Join a guide for a full day walking tour to discover all of this and much, much more. 

Start in Georgetown, an area rich in history, culture and food. The guide will give a short introduction to the town’s past, learning how merchants from around the world used Penang as a refuge between two regional monsoon weather systems and thus bringing a variety of international influences into the local culture.

Armed with this understanding of Penang’s cultural background, set off through town to explore. Stop for a cup of local coffee at a bake house and sample Bengali bread, while the guide explains the origins of this popular Penang breakfast. 

Continue the Penang walking tour through the old town, stopping to admire some of the architectural wonders that earned the town UNESCO World Heritage status. Admire the streets’ mix of old and new, hearing the fascinating tales behind some of the historic structures and seeing modern, whimsical street art.
