Kiulu Farmstay is situated along the Kiulu River. A beautiful community-based ecotourism project where you can immerse yourself in the Sabahan Culture. Tucked away in a beautiful valley, enjoy learning how to cook traditional dishes to the backdrop of the river and the beauty of green rice fields. Take nature walks with a local guide, learn about the riparian community, and how they integrate and rely on the nature around them.
Itinerary
📍 Kota Kinabalu Hotel to Kiulu Valley (60 km): 1.5hours
Today's tour starts at 09:00. Pickup from the hotel in a join-in transfer with an english speaking driver and transfer approximately 45 minutes to the countryside. Take a short stop at Tamparuli Suspension Bridge and the nearby local market, passing the scenic view of the Kiulu Valley. Upon arrival at the Kiulu Valley Farmstay, be greeted with a warm welcome followed by a briefing on the day's program by the local guide.
Try your hand at some cultural activities such as traditional rice processing, blow pipe, rice planting and rubber tapping before lunch. After a traditional meal, continue with a leisurely village walk offering views of the scenic valley. Pass through lush paddy fields and over hanging bridges. If time and weather permits, take a dip in the sensationally cool Kiulu River. After dinner, enjoy a good chat with the local people about the village history and folktales before retiring to bed.

After breakfast, take a refreshing walk to visit the local farm and garden. Test your skills at rice planting and net fishing. Pick local produce to get a taste of sunshine, country air, and whatever fresh summer fruit and vegetables are in season. A hands-on experience of picking your own lunch lends to a true farm to table food experience.
Head back to partake in the natural kitchen adventure – a unique learning experience that offers the opportunity to interact and be taught directly by the resident chef while preparing a locally grown lunch. After lunch, spend some time at leisure before the demonstration of cultural activities such rice sieving, blow pipe, handcrafts making, playing musical instruments and traditional games. Finish the afternoon with a short walk to the nearby river to take a swim.
