Itinerary

📍 Kuching - Semenggoh Wildlife Centre (80 km): Approx. 1 hour 40 minutes / Semenggoh Wildlife Centre - Bengoh Dam (30 km): Approx. 40 minutes

The day begins with an early morning pickup and a 30–40 minute drive to Semenggoh Nature Reserve, one of the best places in Sarawak to observe semi-wild orangutans. The reserve is home to semi-wild orangutans that were either orphaned or rescued from the illegal pet trade. These orangutans have undergone rehabilitation and now roam freely within the reserve. During feeding times, guests can watch as they emerge from the forest canopy to enjoy their fruit meal. Since the orangutans live freely, sightings are not guaranteed, but are always a memorable experience.

After this special encounter, the journey continues with a 40-minute scenic drive to Bengoh Dam. Upon arrival, guests will meet a local community guide and take a scenic 30-minute boat ride across the tranquil lake to a small jetty. From the landing point, a short uphill hike (10–15 minutes) brings them to Kampung Nyegol, a traditional Bidayuh village nestled in the lush hills. The term "Ulu" means "upriver" in the local language, and the Ulu Bengoh area is home to the Bidayuh people, one of Borneo's indigenous ethnic groups. This remote village is accessible only by boat. While many villagers have relocated to more accessible areas, some have chosen to remain,  safeguarding their ancestral land and heritage.

The journey continues with a short boat ride to Ngapuh Lodge, a peaceful rainforest retreat run by the local community. The lodge's name, Ngapuh, means “Anything is possible,” reflecting the community's belief in sustainable, community-based tourism as a way to protect their natural heritage. Guests will visit the nearby tree nursery and take part in a hands-on tree-planting activity, a meaningful way to contribute to a reforestation project aimed at healing the land after decades of farming. They'll learn each step, from seed collection to sapling care, before having a chance to plant a tree themselves, leaving a lasting, positive footprint.

After a home-cooked dinner at the lodge, guests can consider joining a night walk in search of nocturnal wildlife.
