On arrival, be met and greeted at Lahad Datu Airport and proceed for registration and briefing.

Depart from Lahad Datu for an overland shared transfer into the thick virgin rainforest area of Danum Valley – one of the world’s most complex ecosystems. The first 30 km of this journey are on paved roads while the remaining 60 km are on a gravel road which gives a bumpy but interesting ride.

12:00 On arrival at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge, check in late afternoon prepare yourself for an introduction to our nature activity for the day. Nature activities introduction includes guided nature trails, Canopy Walkway - 360m in length and 27m, high up in the 130-million-year-old rainforest which is literally humming with jungle sounds.

After dinner, board one of the open-top 4WD vehicles for an exhilarating wildlife night tour. Accompanied by a local guide with a spotlight, spot a range of nocturnal animals that inhabit reserve, from samba deers to civet cats, leopards, and a stunning array of insects and frogs.

After the tour, return to the private chalet.

Please note: The order of activities are weather dependent and will be discussed with the guide on a daily basis for the next days schedule.

Wake up to the jungle’s cacophony of sounds ranging from birds to primates, such as gibbons. Taking a packed breakfast, travel to a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial Site, known as ‘Coffin Cliff’ situated along the 2.6km Viewpoint Trail. At the end of the trail, be rewarded with spectacular views over an ocean-like million-year-old jungle – a truly spectacular sight. The return journey includes a trip to the waterfall!

Return to the resort for lunch.

The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure. There is a range of optional activities available, such as private trekking, tubing on the Danum River and specialised guided tours. There is also a series of tracks leading around the Canopy Walk that are free to be discovered at will.

This evening, venture into the jungle on foot with a nature guide. Take a quiet trek in the jungle revealing a stunning array of wildlife and the variety and size of the many insects that flourish in the evening hours.

There may only be one restaurant in Borneo Rainforest Lodge, but do not let this be a limitation on dining options. This morning, enjoy a breakfast in pristine rainforest along the riverbank. Indulge in a meal on the nature trail located on a sandy river bank just 100 metres from the main lodge and get as intimate as possible with nature. The shade from the evergreen dipterocarp trees provides natural shade from the sun. Enjoy a delicious breakfast against the backdrop of the rainforest and the sound of the river flowing by.

This morning trek to Fairy Pools and Merchant Pools. Take a refreshing swim and enjoy some relaxation time at the waterfalls before returning to the lodge for lunch.

This afternoon, spend time at leisure relaxing to the backdrop of nature at the lodge.

📍 Transfer Borneo Rainforest Lodge to Lahad Datu by 4WD (100KM): 3hrs (bumpy unsealed road)

This morning, take an optional trek on the nature trail with a nature guide before check-out and departure.

At 11:30 check-out of the lodge, enjoy lunch and transfer to Lahad Datu for the onward journey.
