Starting in Kuching, guests venture into coastal and interior regions to experience a side of Borneo few see. From Malay fishing villages and colonial forts to wildlife-rich national parks and Iban longhouse stays, this itinerary offers an immersive blend of culture, adventure, and nature.

Itinerary

📍 Kuching to Maludam via Beliong - Approx. 4.5 to 5 hrs (with stops and ferry crossing)

Be picked up from their hotel in Kuching at 08:00 for a scenic drive to Beliong Jetty. Upon arrival, board a traditional sampan boat to cross the Samarahan River and reach Beliong Island. Here, explore a remote Chinese temple and witness the fusion of Malay, Chinese, and Iban cultures in the local villages.

Continuing by land, the journey traverses rivers, including a 1.48-kilometre bridge and a 2.8-kilometre ferry crossing. Lunch is served en route at a local café. Then arrive at Kampong Maludam and check into a simple local hotel. In the late afternoon, explore the quiet fishing village, join a local pastry-making demonstration, and enjoy a home-cooked Malay dinner with a local family.

Overnight in Hotel Maludam

📍 Maludam to Betong (93 km): Approx. 2 hrs Betong to Sri Aman (75 km): Approx. 2 hrs

After breakfast, embark on a two-hour boat journey into the heart of Maludam National Park. Explore one of Borneo’s last remaining peat swamp forests, home to the rare red-banded langur and proboscis monkeys. The park’s unique biodiversity offers fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities.

Later, the journey continues by road to Betong to visit a traditional Iban longhouse at Rian Batang. Explore the longhouse, admire ancient artifacts, and learn about the customs of the Iban people. The day concludes with a drive to Sri Aman to enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before checking in for the night.

Overnight in Sri Simanggang Hotel

📍 Sri Aman to Banting (via Lingga and longboat) – Approx. 2.5 to 3 hrs including boat transfer

The morning begins with a thrilling shallow-draft longboat journey along a river known for its crocodile population. If conditions allow, you may witness the region’s tidal bore phenomenon.

The journey continues to Banting, a remote area rich in Iban heritage. Visit a historic Anglican Church built in 1859 and explore nearby Iban villages known for padi farming. At the longhouse, observe daily life, visit the local school, and engage with the community. Dinner features a traditional meal including local river shrimp, and experience a true cultural immersion with an overnight stay at the longhouse, sleeping on floor mattresses like the locals.

📍 Sri Aman to Kuching (Approx. 193 km): 4 to 5 hrs (with stops)

After breakfast, bid farewell to their hosts and return by longboat to Lingga. Upon arrival in Sri Aman, visit Fort Lily, a historical relic from the Brooke era that offers insight into Sarawak’s colonial past.
The journey continues with an overland transfer back to Kuching. A local lunch stop along the way allows to sample regional delicacies. The tour concludes with arrival in Kuching around 15:00 to 16:00.
