After breakfast this morning, start a discovery of the ancient royal city of Luang Prabang, often referred to as the jewel of Indochina by bicycle. Take a morning ride down the UNSECO heritage streets of Luang Prabang to the former Royal Palace - now the national museum - home to artifacts belonging to numerous past rulers. Explore some of Luang Prabang’s amazing Wat’s (temples) including Wat Sen, Wat Visoun (only if time permits) and perhaps the most stunning, Wat Xieng Thong that was built in 1560 and brightly decorated with gold and coloured glass. Then, cycle to Mount Phousi and take a short hike up to enjoy great panoramic views of the surrounding temples.
Lunch at Khai Phaen.
In the early afternoon, cycle to Ban Xang Khong, a village specialising in the production of silk, cotton and natural paper products. This is an authentic and fun-filled shopping opportunity as a wonderful array of high quality textiles, dresses, bags, scarves and tapestries are available to bargain for.
After the village visit, enjoy a traditional Petanque game in the village’s main center. This heritage game of the French is one of the country’s favourite past times.
Then, cycle back to the hotel before spending the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Dinner at Son Phao while enjoying a traditional Lao Dance show.
