The best way to appreciate the natural beauty and cultural diversity of Laos is on foot. Spend two days trekking the outskirts of Luang Prabang. The effort is rewarded with endless views of pristine landscapes, encounters with hill tribes and refreshing swims in cascading waterfalls.
Venture away from the city and trek through unspoiled nature to hill tribe villages and a remote nature resort.

Luang Prabang Trekking Retreat - 3 Days / 2 Nights
Begin the Luang Prabang trekking trip with a departure from town for the 15-minute drive to the That Thong Waterfalls. It is from here that the day’s hike will commence, heading towards a rarely visited protected region rich in flora and butterflies.
The hike to the top of the area will be made through a cascading waterfall along a vast jungle track. Walk through a Kamu village, taking the opportunity to learn more about highland agriculture. Trek up the hill to discover a beautiful view of Luang Prabang from a new angle before hiking back down the other side.
In the midst of lush vegetation, arrive to the Hillside resort for lunch.
Enjoy time here unwinding by the pool or in the tropical garden.
This evening, enjoy a fabulous dinner at the resort’s restaurant.
Overnight in Ban Xieng Mouark
After breakfast at the resort, enjoy a dip in the surrounding pools before making the journey out to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Begin with a 15 minute transfer to the Hmong and Lao village of Long Lao. From here, start trekking through various vegetation and landscapes before arriving at the top of the falls. It’s possible to swim at the pools collecting at the base of the falls, so do remember to bring (modest) swimming attire!
Enjoy a delicious Lao Picnic lunch nearby the waterfalls.
After the falls, pay a visit to the nearby bear sanctuary, run by Free the Bears. The site is home to 23 Asiatic Bears, rescued from poachers. Afterwards, transfer back to the hotel, arriving around mid afternoon.
Meet up again at 17:30 in appropriate clothing to take part in the traditional Lao Baci Ceremony. The purpose of the Baci is to call back escaped spirits to the body, an important ceremony held before major events such as weddings, births, travel and farewells.
During the Baci, special flower trays and food treats are prepared which are touched by the participants while a Buddhist mantra is chanted. After the chanting is completed, cotton threads are tied around the participant's wrist while receiving an individual blessing.
Enjoy a farewell dinner at Khai Phen. Khai Phen is a restaurant is run by Peuan Mit, an organization founded by Friends-International to address the needs of street children and young people in Laos.
Overnight in Luang Prabang
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy the morning free at leisure until transport (provided) back to the airport for the departing flight.
