For early risers, there is a very special dawn visit to watch the monks collecting the alms. As the sun begins to rise, long lines of orange-robed monks leave their pagodas and walk barefoot down the streets collecting offerings from Luang Prabang residents.
Leave the city behind and head to the countryside. Laos’ is home to the most beautiful natural landscapes in Southeast Asia and today’s drive provides a glimpse of these sceneries. Stop in a small village home to one of the many ethnic groups described at TAEC and see, first-hand, their customs and way of life.
The beautiful drive ends at a perhaps even more beautiful destination- The Kuang Si Waterfalls. The falls are a series of cascading turquoise pools, surrounded by lush forest. Spend time exploring the falls and enjoying the pristine nature. Take a challenging, but rewarding, hike to the top of the highest drop or simply relax on the rocks of the lower pools.
A special picnic lunch is prepared alongside the falls. Enjoy local dishes with a million-dollar view of the Kuang Si falls.
For further insight into the natural wonders of Laos, a stop can be made at the Asiatic Black Bear sanctuary. Located near the Kuang Si falls, this center houses endangered bears rescued from poachers. The center explains the efforts of the passionate animal lovers who are working to stop the poachers and preserve the bear’s natural habitat. An additional visit can be made at the unique Lao Buffalo Dairy Farm, a social enterprise that produces sustainable and delicious cheese while giving back to the community and environment. While the buffalo may be the stars here, there are also playful pigs, cheeky chickens and rollicking rabbits that are just as fun to interact with for the young and young at heart. Enjoy a homemade ice cream at the cafe before saying goodbye to the Buffaloes and the team. (Opening Hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm, Monday - Sunday)
Late this afternoon it is time to return to the city, driving once again through the vibrant rural landscapes that make up Laos' countryside.
On the drive back to town, stop at the unique Lao Buffalo Dairy Farm, a social enterprise that produces sustainable and delicious cheese while giving back to the community and environment.
On arrival at the farm, a trained guide will be ready for the tour and to answer any questions. Cuddle up to our beautiful buffalos who are around 450kgs heavy or feed Ferdinand, the friendly buffalo at just 750kgs! These animals love to eat not only grass but bananas as well.
After eating, our buffalo’s next favorite activity is to take a bath. Get to wash them and give them a scrub that feels just like a ‘day spa’ for them. Next, time to get hands-on on a milking demonstration. Learn how to milk a buffalo while learning all about the benefits of buffalo milk. Then, bottle feed the cute buffalo calves. Nobody can resist a giggle when bottle feeding them!
Once you are back in town, hop on the luxurious cruiser Monsoon (or similar) for a breathtaking sunset cruise on the Mekong river.
Tonight, enjoy your time at leisure in the historical center or at your hotel.
