Board a limited express train from Shinjuku to leave behind the bustle of Tokyo and reach the tranquil countryside of Nagano prefecture. 

Upon arrival at Chino Station, receive a warm welcome from an assistant followed by a transfer to a local village at the foothills of the Yatsugatake Mountains, where communities have lived in close harmony with nature for thousands of years. 

A local resident gives a guided tour through the village, explaining about the region’s agricultural heritage, seasonal cooking and artisan techniques, offering insight into how local communities adapted to mountain living. Observe the unique local architecture and learn about the historic irrigation systems that have supported regional agriculture for generations.

Visit local shrines and community gathering spaces to gain insight into the daily lives and spiritual customs of the residents. Engage with the serene natural surroundings while discovering the importance of community cooperation in maintaining the village’s heritage and rural landscape.

Continue to the renovated farmhouse that will be home for the night, and relax in the peaceful surroundings of the property. 

Dinner is provided at the accommodation or via a complimentary transfer to a nearby local restaurant.

The morning begins with a breakfast delivery consisting of freshly baked muffins and a selection of seasonal varieties sourced from the surrounding area. 

After check-out, participate in a meaningful cultural exchange by cooking alongside local grandmothers who serve as the keepers of regional culinary secrets. This hands-on activity involves the preparation of traditional dishes using seasonal ingredients and time-honoured methods passed down through generations. Engage in the process of kneading, chopping and seasoning while learning about the history of the dishes. 

After the meal, a transfer is provided back to Chino Station for the departure and onward journey.
