📍 Distance and journey time: Mas Village – Ubud Centre (5,5 km): 15 minutes.

After breakfast in the morning, be picked up by the tour guide and driver and head out for a unique experience in the residence of a local Balinese Shaman Pak Ketut in Mas Village.

Start the day with a visit to Pura Desa Brahma Temple (village temple, one of the trinity). Learn about the temple and the importance of rituals in Balinese daily life.

Walk to the house and learn how to make traditional Balinese offerings which will be needed for the ceremony; the guide will explain the philosophy of these ‘Canang Sari’. After finishing with the lesson, bring the offering to the family temple and pray, guided by the shaman.

Next he will perform a purification ritual followed by a chakra opening and palm reading. By his chanting and prayer, he is able to ‘detect’ unbalanced energy, as well as negative auras. He then performs a purification ritual by sprinkling coconut water to neutralise the negativity. Next is the opening of the chakra. Chakras are seven points performing as the central energies of the human body which correlate to self-esteem, emotion, affection, mental stability, and wisdom. Unbalanced energy in one’s body means one chakra has become more active than the others, and opening the chakra is performed in order to keep the right balance.

Last but not least is having a fortune reading. Pak Ketut reads and interprets various palm lines and performs a future prediction while enjoying tea or coffee and traditional Balinese cookies.

Note: As a sign of respect towards local Hindu religion, it is suggested to wear Balinese attire (sarong and sash around the waist). Please be reminded to have long hair rolled up in a bun, avoid sleeveless tops, and do not to wear trousers under the sarong.

Drive to a nearby local restaurant for a traditional Balinese lunch with a healthy organic juice.

After lunch, head with the guide to Ubud center to explore and discover the many charms of Ubud.  Visit the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA Museum) and enjoy one of the best permanent collections of Balinese and Indonesian paintings & sculptures. A visit to ARMA Museum provides a great overview of the island’s rich artistic traditions.

Afterwards, head to the Sacred Monkey Forest and to get into the local spirit by donning a traditional sarong (the fabric worn by men and women). Be careful with the cheeky monkeys, though! They’re known for stealing unprotected snacks and drinks. After exploring Monkey Forest, visit Ubud Palace and Ubud Market, where local vendors come to buy and sell food as well as handicrafts and textiles.
