Itinerary

📍 Denpasar Airport – Ubud (40 km): 1 hr 20 mins

After arriving at Denpasar Airport in the afternoon, receive a private transfer to the town of Ubud. Located in the island’s geographic center, Ubud is the cultural and arts heart of Bali.
The remainder of the day is at leisure.

After breakfast, depart Ubud for an excursion to Mount Batur. Drive along small, scenic roads offering beautiful views of the rice fields and daily life of Balinese farmers. The first stop is the unique temple of Gunung Kawi. Set amidst lush rice terraces, these 11th century temples feature 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) carved into the cliff face. They stand at 7-metres tall and combine ancient Hindu and Buddhist temple attributes. Numerous stairs lead down to the temple, so good walking shoes are required. 
The first stop is the unique temple of Gunung Kawi. Set amidst lush rice terraces, these 11th century temples feature 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) carved into the cliff face. They stand at 7-metres tall and combine ancient Hindu and Buddhist temple attributes. There are numerous stairs leading down to the temple, so good walking shoes are required. 

Continue to the nearby village of Tampaksiring to explore Tirta Empul, a temple famous for its sacred spring water. Balinese residents bathe here at least once a year for ritual cleansing in holy waters dedicated to Vishnu. Then drive further to the north until reaching Kintamani, a volcanic region in the shadow of Mount Batur with breathtaking views. Adjacent to the volcano is the large crescent-shaped Batur Lake, all surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim. Stop for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant with all-encompassing views over Lake Batur. In the afternoon, return to Ubud along a different road towards the area of Perkedui near Tegalalang for some of the most beautiful rice terrace landscapes in Bali. Enjoy a one-hour soft trek around Tegalalang, venturing through stunning rice terraces. Learn about the unique subak irrigation system common to Bali. These quiet, verdant paths lined by palm trees provide great photographic opportunities. At the end of the trek, take a coffee or tea and a traditional cake at a warung before returning to the hotel. 

Return to Ubud late in the afternoon.

📍 Ubud – Tunjuk (23 km): 1 hr Tunjuk - Taman Ayun (13 km): 30 mins Taman Ayun – Jimbaran (34 km): 1 hr 10 mins

Begin the full-day exploration of Bali’s lakes and hills after breakfast. Drive towards Bedugul, an area of the central highlands famous for its stunning natural beauty and three lakes. The first stop is the Royal Temple of Mengwi, built in 1634 to serve as the family temple of the Mengwi dynasty. Admire this stunning piece of historic architecture, surrounded by a moat with multi-roofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates. A visit is next to the traditional market of Bedugul, where a myriad of locally-grown fruits, vegetables, and orchids are for sale. Browse the stalls alongside the locals, discovering the different uses of spices and herbs in Balinese cooking. 

Continue to Lake Bratan, one of Bedugul’s three natural lakes. Admire the peaceful waters and photograph Ulun Danu, a 17th-century temple majestically situated on the lake’s edge. Around midday, head to the slopes of Mount Batukaru, Bali’s second-highest mountain, for lunch. After refueling, take a light trek through Jatiluwih’s UNESCO-listed rice fields. Enjoy the endless, panoramic views of verdant rice terraces and learn about the traditional techniques used by Bali’s farmers to irrigate the crops and produce rice. Following exploration of the Bedugul highlands, return to the hotel in Ubud.

📍 Jimbaran – Uluwatu Temple (13 km): 30 mins Uluwatu Temple – Jimbaran Seafood (13 km): 30 mins

After breakfast, experience authentic local culture with an insightful Bali village tour. Transfer to Marga, a typical rural village in the Tabanan Regency. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, this is the perfect place to experience an authentic countryside lifestyle. Arrival is welcomed with a healthy drink in a family’s compound. Hosts introduce daily activities on the farm. Learn about traditional herbal remedies, see remarkable inscribed palm leaves and discover other aspects of typical Balinese life. 
After exploring the family compound, join a farmer for an easy trek through the surroundings. The trek offers a chance to learn about the Balinese Subak irrigation system, a unique and effective method used by generations of local farmers. Pass through vibrant rice fields where, depending on the time of year, there may be a chance to assist local farmers. Loop back to the house compound in time for a delicious, family-style lunch. 
Following lunch, continue to the hotel in southern Bali. Check-in and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Later this afternoon, drive to Uluwatu Temple, majestically perched on the edge of a steep cliff. At sunset, witness a dramatic kecak dance performance at the temple, characterized by the steady chant of male performers instead of musical accompaniment. 

Return to the charming town of Jimbaran for a BBQ seafood dinner under the stars on one of Bali’s more expansive beaches. The seafood warung serves an enticing platter including prawns, grilled fish, squid, clam/shell, accompanied by rice, vegetables (Indonesian spinach), and sambal (spicy sauce).
