Escape to a one-of-kind hospitality experience at Cicadas’ Residence near The Borobudur Temple. Called Omah Garengpoeng in the local language means cicada's house; get to meet a lovely couple who runs this place. Visit the local market and learn to cook typical Java dishes from the friendly hosts and get to know their culture, life and personalities over meals.

Itinerary

📍 Yogyakarta – Borobudur (42Km): 1hour 35 minutes

This afternoon, be transferred to Omah Garengpoeng in Borobudur area and be welcomed by Abang Erwin and Mrs. Lily.

Abang Erwin and Mrs. Lily are two lovebirds who love to travel and share the same interest in the culinary world. From their fond childhood memory of cicadas, they built a house called Omah Garengpoeng (Cicadas’ residence) where they can present their own unique hospitality which will surely be enjoyed and remembered! 

Get to know the couple while sipping on a welcome drink before settling in the room to freshen up.

After getting refreshed, head to the pendopo, a Javanese hall or room in the house to learn batik. Start from scratch, line the hot wax on the design and choose colours for dyeing and finally make a personal hand-made handkerchief to be taken home!

Take a break for the rest of the afternoon and in the evening it’ll be time for dinner.

Overnight in Borobudur

Inclusions:

After breakfast, be accompanied by Mrs. Lily to the traditional market. Join her by riding the horse cart and chit-chat along the way. Learn the local food and famous spices of Indonesia, which is normally used in local cuisine.

On the way back to the house, stop by at a home-industry where Rengginang or sticky rice crackers are made. Discover how it’s traditionally made and enjoy making and tasting a personal creation! 

Upon arrival for the morning stroll, prepare for a cooking class supervised by Mrs. Lily, who is a culinary book writer and an excellent cook.

Prepare three healthy and fresh traditional dishes, such as vegetables and coconut milk soup, mushroom satay and potato croquette, a Dutch influenced dish. Learn how to fine tune the food by using herbs and spices from the Indonesian archipelago.

Enjoy a delicious self-cooked lunch.

In the afternoon, prepare to cycle around Wanurejo Village, passing paddy fields, an art house before taking an afternoon break while waiting for the sun to set at a typical sunset lookout.

Return to the house where dinner is set. Indulge in a lively conversation that will certainly happen during the meal!

In the morning before breakfast, you can choose either to enjoy a serene, or assist Ibu Lily  planting herbs in the backyards. 


Following breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to Abang Erwin and Mrs. Lily. Be picked up by the guide and driver to the next destination.
