πŸ“ Siem Reap – Rokhak Women Handicraft (3.5 km): 10 mins

This morning the tour begins at 08:00. Experience weaving water hyacinth items in a traditional Khmer wooden house alongside a local woman artisan.

Cambodia's history in silk production spans over a millennium, but the lesser-known water hyacinth initially considered an invasive plant obstructing water flow. A discovery revealed that prolonged sun exposure transformed water hyacinth into a robust material used for creating diverse items, expanding from hammocks to carpets, shoes, and bags. This innovative evolution has offered a sustainable solution while addressing the invasive nature of the plant, benefiting local communities and offering versatile crafting opportunities.

In a typical Khmer wooden house, meet a local woman artisan and take the chance to create your own water hyacinth item. You have the choice to make a placemat/small box/coasters or a small basket box. Embrace this unique opportunity to engage discussions, immersing yourself in the cultural narrative behind each intricate weave. This hands-on experience invites you to not only create but also to connect deeply with local women artisan.

At the end of the workshop, enjoy delicious Cambodian snacks. There's an opportunity to make a stop at the shop for a shopping experience (closed on Sunday).

Then visit a local enterprise, Satcha, where craftsmen and women find a safe and clean space to work as well as receive training to further hone their talent and grow themselves into artistic entrepreneurs.
