Depart from the hotel at 08:30. Learn about Hue’s rich culture and heritage from a local artisan. Mr. Cu, the director of Hue’s ‘Kite Flying Club’ at his home. For three generations, his family has made traditional Vietnamese kites. Your host has more than 45 years of experience in crafting unique, handmade kites.
Enter his house, seeing examples of his gorgeous kites. Hear about the history of kite flying in Vietnam, a form of entertainment once favoured by the aristocracy and mandarins of the Nguyen Dynasty. Then step into his workshop and watch as the master demonstrates his techniques. Learn about his life as an artisan and the traditional methods he uses to make his one-of-a-kind kites.
After this introduction, join a hands-on kite-making course. Under Mr. Cu’s guidance, grab a brush and start painting a traditional, 1.5-meter-long Hue-style kite. Wrap up this kite making Hue experience with a truly unique handmade souvenir- a reminder of Hue’s rich artistic heritage.
