Rise early at 06:30 , but expect those yawns to be well worth it! Head over to Long Bien Market, the biggest fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Northern Vietnam. No other place in Hanoi exemplifies Vietnamese life better than Long Bien Market. Witness buyers haggling for goods, money counters, motorbikes weaving through crowded aisles and other dizzying scenes of daily life.
Follow up with a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, the heart and symbol of Hanoi. Pass by groups of Hanoians going over their daily Tai Chi, aerobics or martial arts. Enjoy the slower pace before the hum of Hanoi’s bustling traffic begins.
Join a 30-minute Tai Chi class during this ‘silence before the storm.’ Discover the slow movements of this popular martial art under the guidance of a local teacher.
Next up, head to a popular local restaurant for the typical Vietnamese pho breakfast, consisting of noodle soup bursting with flavour. Hanoian’s are staunch about their pho and will tell you repeatedly, the capital is the only place to eat it.
Enjoy some Vietnamese coffee at a local coffee shop for the last stop while overlooking one of the capital’s many lakes. Iced in summer or warm with sweetened condensed milk in winter, cafe sua da is the ultimate experience whilst in Hanoi.
