Experience Hoi An’s enduring charm through traditional crafts, cuisine and community initiatives at local social enterprises. From lantern-making to noodle preparation, each stop offers insight into local heritage while supporting training and employment opportunities.
Depart the hotel at 09:00 or 15:00 for a community teahouse that also serves as a vocational centre for underprivileged locals. Set within a beautifully preserved heritage house, the venue offers a peaceful pause from the busy streets of Hoi An. Here, learn how to craft a traditional collapsible lantern, creating a meaningful souvenir that can easily be transported home.
Afterwards, walk through the ancient streets towards Hoi An’s Japanese Bridge, stopping for locally made ice cream flavoured with tropical fruits. Take a moment to step away from the crowds and watch the rhythm of daily life unfold.
The experience continues at Streets Restaurant, a social enterprise founded by STREETS International in 2009 in Hoi An's Ancient Town, where disadvantaged youth receive culinary and hospitality training while the restaurant revenue supports their education, housing and career development in the hospitality industry. Watch a noodle-making demonstration before enjoying a delightful bowl of mi quang, a traditional Central Vietnamese noodle dish made with thick rice noodles, savoury broth, fresh herbs and a choice of pork or shrimp. The meal is prepared and served by the students. (L)
