Pick up at 08:00. Go behind the scenes for a closer look at Buddhist culture. Start the morning with a visit to Wat Pho, arguably Bangkok’s most enchanting temple. Arrive just as the resident monks gather for their morning chants. Witness this deeply spiritual ritual and gain a better understanding of Thailand’s Buddhist heritage.

After the chants, take a walk around Wat Pho and explore the vast collection of religious treasures on display. Admire the famed Reclining Buddha, which stretches 45 meters in length. Learn about the symbolism of the Buddha’s intricate footprint and observe devotees making offerings to this revered image.

The tour then continues to the nearby Grand Palace, which has served as the seat of Thailand's revered royal family for more than two centuries. Take a walk around the vast grounds, stopping to explore the various temples, throne halls, and museums within the compound. Visit the Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddhist image in Thailand, and learn about its mysterious origins.

Take a break at midday for lunch at a local restaurant serving delicious Thai food. Afterward, continue on to visit Wat Trimitr, located on the edge of Chinatown, which houses the world’s largest solid gold Buddha.

Then take a long-tail boat ride, moving away from the high rises of the city and venturing through the quiet canals upon which Bangkok was originally built. Catch glimpses of the olden days as you pass by charming neighborhoods built along the water's edge.

Return to the main waterway, the Chao Phraya River, and visit Wat Arun. Meaning "Temple of the Dawn," this riverside pagoda dates back to the 17th century. Wander among the prangs (spires), the largest of which is designed to resemble Mount Meru from Hindu mythology. Admire its incredible decoration, with ceramic tiles depicting figures of Chinese soldiers and animals.

Following this insightful exploration of Bangkok, return to the hotel in the late afternoon.(L)
