Begin the morning at 08:00 with a pick-up from the hotel. Escape into the lush highlands of Mae Rim on a private trip to a secluded coffee estate, offering an immersive blend of forest ecology, hands-on conservation and shade-grown coffee.
Upon arrival at the hidden valley of Baan Pong Krai in Mae Rim, make the first stop at the Orchid Nursery and Education Center, where a local naturalist and orchid expert offers a warm welcome accompanied by a unique cup of orchid tea. Discover the intricate biology and growth stages of wild orchids before getting hands-on by attaching an orchid plant to a wooden block, tagging it and preparing seasoned orchids to reintroduce directly back into the forest.
Proceed for a brief visit to Wat Pong Krai, a charming village temple that features a historic shrine downhill and a modern stupa on the hilltop. Continue to the starting point of the jungle trek and, accompanied by the local naturalist guide, embark on an easy, flat two-kilometre trek through the woodland towards the coffee farm. Along the way, hammer the prepared orchids onto wild trees and learn how shade-grown coffee flourishes under the forest, observing the visual evolution of the plant from tiny rootlings and green cherries to mature beans.
The trail opens into a private, open-air coffee camp. Unwind with refreshing cold towels and cool beverages before exploring the full journey of the coffee bean. Learn about traditional and modern processing methods, discover how eco-friendly coffee cascara (peels) are repurposed into natural fertiliser and ultimately hand-roast and brew a cup of fresh drip coffee in the forest air.
At lunchtime, take a short drive to a hidden garden sanctuary that once served as the home of the late Thai national artist and writer, Rong Wongsawan. Surrounded by peaceful, lush foliage, indulge in an award-winning set menu of refined Thai home-style cuisine, recognised by the Michelin Guide for consecutive years, capping off a memorable morning of nature and culture with refined Thai gastronomy.
