Discover one of the last surviving traditional villages of the south, Baan Kamala that largely thrives on the traditional way of life. Meet the friendly locals, learn how to cook their food or partake in batik making for a meaningful experience that gives back to the community.
Be picked up from the hotel at 08:30 and transferred to discover one of the last communities open to tourism in the Pearl of the Andaman, rich in southern tradition and culture. Baan Kamala is a local village that still preserves much of the traditional way of life, with a predominantly Muslim culture.
Upon arrival, you will be met and greeted by the local people and introduced to the village. The half-day tour begins with hands-on activities that are part of local life. Learn from a local host how to make the traditional dessert khanom duen, a Southern sweet specialty that is rarely seen nowadays. After the dessert-making experience, enjoy cooking the famous Southern dish kaeng som, a hot and sour curry made with buffalo oranges (garcinia fruit). Note that most Southern dishes are spicier than those from other parts of Thailand, but for those who enjoy spice, this dish will be a delightful treat. Alternatively, you can enjoy painting a sarong or batik with a personal design.
After the experience, it's time to say goodbye and drive back to the hotel.
