Gain a deeper understanding of Thai culture and history by visiting some provinces only known to local Thai people. Enjoy learning about the history of the region and take part in ancient rituals in paying respects to Buddha. Relax like a local at a fun themed cafe. Take a scenic yet invigorating bike ride and return to the hotel feeling refreshed and more knowledgeable about local Thai culture.
Pick up at 08:30 or 09:00, depending on your hotel location. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and head towards the southern outskirts of Bangkok for a full-day guided tour of Samut Prakarn Province. From there, continue on to Bang Khun Thian, a neighboring district of Samut Sakhon Province. These areas are completely off the beaten path, offering new perspectives on Thai history, local culture, and nature.
Continue on to the first stop at Phra Chula Chomklao Fort, located at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River. Explore Thailand’s military history as you tour the compound, gaining a deeper understanding of the country beyond its religious and cultural aspects. See the cannons that were used to defend against the French army in 1893 and board the HTMS Mae Klong, which was used during World War II.
From here, continue on a short drive to a lesser-known, over 100-year-old temple called Wat Sakla, located next to an old community established during the early Ayutthaya era, around the time of King Rama I. Upon arrival, you will explore all the highlights, such as paying respects to the Buddha of Luck and walking through the tunnel of Black Rahu for good fortune. You will also discover the history of some Buddha ruins and even float an artificial lotus as part of making merits and gaining luck, following the locals’ belief. Next, take a walk around the small museum housing various Hindu and Buddhist images. Have some fun learning about the local Thai lifestyle by seeing how farmers do different jobs through a wooden toy display. If your visit falls on a weekend, you’ll also enjoy the weekend market at the temple. If time allows, the guide will take you on a stroll around the local community lining the canal.
After this fun morning excursion, drive to a stylish and chic little café called Seayou Café, designed in a beach style and located by the river. Choose the right zone to enjoy your lunch (at your own expense). (Note: A late lunch may be possible, depending on the time spent at the temple.)
After lunch, hop back in the van and continue for about a 40-minute drive to the Bang Khun Thian quarter. Pull over next to the Rak Thale Bang Khun Thian Bridge, the starting point of the mangrove path. Embark on an hour-long bike ride along the well-paved cement path, with some sections featuring colorful nature-inspired designs. The biking route ends with a panoramic view of the ocean.
After an exhausting but fun ride, hop back in the van and return to the hotel.
