You will enjoy a creative experience starting either in the morning or the afternoon. You will be picked up at 08.00 or 13.00 by your guide in a private comfortable air conditioned vehicle. Your destination is Baan Thongjaya, a remarkable destination encompassing a historical yellow house, charming café, and delightful restaurant, built as a commemoration of Lieutenant Colonel M.R. Thongchai Chaiyangkoon, a great-grand-child of the old king. Here, you will embark on an enriching cultural heritage journey. You will be met and greeted by Mr. Luengvilai, your friendly art instructor, who will introduce you to the art of traditional Thai crafted gold, lacquering and gilding on wood.

Lacquering and Gilding are considered high art in Thailand and part of the kingdom’s heritage. Lacquer is often applied to the surface of Buddha images to produce a shiny effect and make them stand out. You will spend time with the artist learning about the history of this traditional art form along with the methods of how to create your own piece. You will also learn how to write traditional Thai water patterns by applying lacquer and gilding on a small wooden plaque to create your own design, let your imagination run wild and create something meaningful to you or ask the local artist for inspiration. Once finished your design, you will have a magical, creative souvenir to remind you of your experience.

The artist is an interesting character too! He graduated from the Thai Fine Arts College of Technology in Bangkok, where he has been commissioned to participate in the restoration of many famous temples in Thailand including the legendary Wat Pho. Getting to know the artist is a fun experience in itself.

There is more too, to encourage more sustainable travel. The artist will present you with your own tote bag to take your souvenirs and shopping back home with you, a convenient little gift helping you do your bit for the environment.

Finally, you will be transported back to your hotel in the same comfortable air conditioned vehicle, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience from start to finish.
