Escaping from the crowd, go explore one of Bangkok’s oldest areas that has been much untouched by tourists. Talad Phlu has plenty on offer en-tray, day and night - street food, local markets, cool cafes, temples, and local lifestyle, as well as the old community. With a great connection through the canal and the BTS skytrain, the neighbourhood is easily accessible for all in a bit more adventurous way. Biking is also the best way to explore!
Be picked up at 08:00 and travel by Skytrain and boat to explore one of Bangkok’s century-old neighborhoods, renowned for its local street food and vibrant community where Thai and Chinese heritages blend. See how locals live alongside the railway tracks and observe how traditions and heritage have been well-preserved in this district.
The half-day adventure begins with a ride on the city’s Skytrain with your guide. This elevated train line is busy in the morning with business people and schoolchildren who avoid street traffic for a faster, air-conditioned commute. Disembark near the Chao Phraya River and board a private long-tail boat, cruising through Bangkok’s canals, passing by local houses along the river’s edge. The boat will drop you off at a local pier near the century-old market, Talad Phlu. From there, take a short walk to Cafe Pracha, a vintage-style cafe that was once a printing house and now offers fun art workshops for all ages.
At the cafe, get ready for a fun bike ride through the area. Put on your helmet, hop on your bike, and follow your local community guide through various zones. Stops are made at the local morning market, local temples, and some shops (depending on which are open on the day). You'll have a chance to interact and chat with locals. The cultural visit includes a stop at the community's over 150-year-old Chinese vegetarian canteen, where you’ll learn about the history of Thai-Chinese settlement in the area.
The ride continues along the railway track, where you may have the opportunity to observe a train approaching the station. Step off your bike for a photoshoot at this iconic scene before continuing your ride. Pedal through small alleys, reaching your final stop at Wat Khun Chan, an intriguing temple area rarely visited by tourists. The highlight here is the massive Black Rahu, a deity believed by many to help free them from suffering and misfortune.
Cycle back to the cafe, where you'll have a chance to rest and enjoy a cold refreshment accompanied by local snacks. The day concludes with lunch at a local restaurant by the railway track, or you can choose an indoor restaurant if you prefer.
Return to your hotel by BTS. (L)
