Programme Details
This full-day experience explores Asirian culture from different angles, showcasing the local traditions, architecture, and heritage of the region.
Starting from the city of Abha, drive out to Jabal Sawda, a towering peak believed to be the highest in Saudi Arabia. After stopping at the view point, continue journeying along winding roads to the traditional village of Rijal Alma.
New: Take a walk through the streets of Rija Alma for an up-close look at the traditional architecture such as mud houses and watchtowers. Learn about the ingenious systems of construction used to protect the structures from seasonal rains. Enjoy a refreshing drink in front of the village, then drive further into the mountains for lunch.
After lunch, return to Abha. Delve deeper into the heritage of Asir at the Fatima Museum of Asir Women, an enthralling exploration of traditional design, home decoration and the natural painting techniques unique to Asir. Discover the art of creating Asir colours from nature, explore their distinctive patterns and partake in a short, hands-on workshop to create a personal souvenir.
In the late afternoon, explore Al Muftaha Art Village. Walk along Abha’s Art Street, a picturesque laneway lined with magnificent purple jacaranda trees and colourful pieces of art.. It’s a place where artists from all over the country gather to share their creativity. Then explore the vibrant traditional market filled with local products and exquisite souvenirs. (L)
