Today the tour will start at 09:00 or 13:00.

Meet with the guide at the hotel and jump into a local taxi and be transferred to the starting point of the adventure walk. From here, begin exploring the maze of tiny lanes and observe sights of everyday life in Yangon such as grandmothers rocking babies in wooden homes, families going about their daily chores, and hawkers selling their wares on foot. This is as local as Yangon gets!

After walking through a big hole in the wall next to a pagoda entrance, safely cross the railway track and walk towards Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda, a peaceful oasis in the heart of downtown Yangon. Walk around to observe the unique monastery buildings surrounding the pagoda and, if you’re feeling fortunate, have your palm read by one of the many fortune tellers on the small road by the train tracks behind the golden stupa (client’s own account).

From here take a short walk to Pazundaung Market and hop aboard a trishaw – a pedal-powered vehicle that remains the preferred choice of transport for many downtown dwellers today. Ride for a while before getting off at a Hindu temple to meet Ganesh, the Elephant God, and many other colourful deities. Most of Myanmar’s Hindu population lives in Yangon, and their many customs, foods and vibrant dresses can be seen throughout the city.

Following the ride take a break in a local tea shop – this is where local people meet to chat and snack at all times of the day. Sample some of these snacks, and of course a ‘Burmese sweet tea’, or simply an ice cold soft drink! Feeling refuelled, continue by foot past the city’s famous Secretariat (former Minister's Office) and drop in to the showroom of a social enterprise crafting a better life for disabled people through the production of practical products made using traditional materials (Note: Showroom is open Monday - Friday from 9am - 4pm).

Then take yet another form of transport by catching a local bus to reach shiny Sule Pagoda and the nearby Mahabandoola Park. Sule Pagoda is the milestone from which all distances in the country are measured, so this final stop of the tour represents not just the heart of Yangon, but the heart of the entire country. Spend some time taking in the view from Mahabandoola Park where people gather as the sun sets. Buy a ball and try playing ‘Chinlone’ (Myanmar volleyball with feet) or simply relax in the green grass of the park and watch the world go by before returning to the hotel by local taxi.

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL: The majority of this tour makes use of walkways, trishaws and public buses so the carbon footprint is lower than a private vehicle tour. These options make for a very exciting journey.

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL: Taking a trishaw to travel around downtown Yangon puts money directly into the hands of local trishaw drivers and provides a unique commuting experience.

Note: This tour is not recommended for groups of more than 6 pax because of the use of small walkways and public transport.
