Tant Kyi Adventure - Half Day
Today’s tour will begin at either 07:30 or 13:30.
Depart after breakfast on the adventure to Tant Kyi, a sacred hilltop pagoda. Drive to Bagan’s riverside and board a private wooden motorboat. Cast off and head to the western shores of the Irrawaddy River, enjoying snacks and tea on the way. Pass by small riverside villages with fishermen and local boats carrying cargo or passengers. Gain a deeper appreciation for the Irrawaddy River and its important role in Myanmar, seeing how it is used for transportation, irrigation and sustenance.
Upon arrival on the western banks of the Irrawaddy, take a short walk through Tant Kyi village. See the ways of life of the people who reside along the river’s edge while strolling along the pathways.
Arriving at the base of the pagoda, there is the option to walk to the top (1-1.5 hours) or travel by local pick-up truck or car. According to local legend, those who visit Tant Kyi Taung and three other sacred sites within one morning will be granted a wish. Thus, it is likely that many locals will also be making the climb to the top!
Those who walk will be rewarded on the way with fabulous views of the Irrawaddy River and the temples spires of Bagan in the distance. Since the trucks travel on a back road, there are no views on the way but once reaching the top of Tant Kyi a spectacular panorama awaits.
Spend time at the temple, watching locals as they come to pay homage and soaking up the views. Then take a short walk to the adjacent caves to see unique Rakhine-style Buddha images.
After the visit return to Tant Kyi village by car (around 25-30 minutes) and board the boat for the return trip to Bagan.
