Head to Thandwe, formerly known as Sandoway, to learn all about the region’s traditional trades. Discover some ancient weaving techniques before heading to a nearby village to learn about age-old fishing practices. Finally, embark on a river cruise to visit some nearby traditional villages before transport is provided back to town.
Programme Details
Today your tour will start at 09:00.
Begin the full day exploration of Myanmar’s lesser-visited west coast with transport from the hotel along the well-paved road to Thandwe (formerly known as Sandoway). Throughout the day, become immersed in the region’s unique trades. The first encounter will be based around the weaving trade. During the ride, learn all about traditional weaving techniques and how they are utilized to produce a table mat woven from strips of bamboo.
After the weaving experience, continue the journey to Kin Mon Village, where a river boat awaits. Boat the boat and take a scenic river cruise, stopping along the way to visit fishing villages. Upon reaching the villages, learn all about their traditional fishing techniques and how they produce dried squid. The guide will provide an introduction to a few local fishermen and will offer some insight into their daily lives.
Get back on board the boat and continue the scenic river cruise until reaching the nearby jetty around 15:00. A private vehicle will be waiting here to provide transport back to the hotel. (L)
