Albuquerque, also known as the Lion of the Seas, still riding high after his victory of Goa, and determined to bring the small and economically weak country of Portugal fame and riches through a combination of bravado and military prowess, landed in Malacca in 1611 and set in place the next steps that would transform Portugal into an international trading empire. Venture into the tomes of history and go in depth into Malacca's key role in Portugal expansion. The arm of Albuquerque still reaches out through time, and dining upon classic Portuguese seafood dishes in a praca alongside the living descendants of his compatriots shines a spotlight on the tangible impact that a small group of sailors can have centuries on.
