KL Walking Tour and National Museum

Start the day at 08:00 and meet the guide in the lobby to start a walking tour of Malaysia’s vibrant capital city. (Note: The route begins from the Bukit Bintang Area. if guests are staying in hotel in KLCC and Chinatown, a transfer will need to be included on supplement).

Walk or take public transport to discover the hidden corners of KL. Experience the local touch on a beautiful walk encountering street life.

Proceed, by monorail, to visit the Chow Kit Market, a classic wet market which sells anything and everything. It is KL's largest covert market. Inside, narrow walkways lead through a maze of stalls laden with local products and seafood of any variety and size, vegetables of numerous shapes and colour, meat, spices and loads and loads of fruits.

Proceed to the MRT station and take the train to Muzium Negara (National Museum). The history of museums in Malaysia began in 1883 when the British government established the Perak Museum, Taiping. This was followed by the Sarawak Museum in Kuching in 1888 and subsequently Selangor Museum in 1906. The design of the National Museum building is characterised by elements of aesthetic and carving of a traditional Malay Palace.The National Museum is the driver of museum activities in Malaysia and has been instrumental in the restoration and preservation of the nation’s heritage.

After the visit, re-board the MRT and proceed to Pasar Seni (Central Market). Once the most famous wet market of the city, built in 1888, it is now a bazaar-styled arts and crafts centre offering a wide variety of products created by local artists and craftsmen. Get a chance to have a self-portrait sketched, browse through the souvenirs on display or visit a traditional medicine shop.

For lunch, visit a traditional banana leaf restaurant called Betel Leaf for Indian cuisine or Baba Nyonya at Old China Café for Peranakan cuisine.

After lunch, visit the “Sze Ya” and the nearby Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple. The first is the oldest Taoist temple in the city with a history dating back to 1864. Built by Kapitan Cina Yap Ah Loy, one of the founding fathers of Kuala Lumpur, it features an ornate interior and elaborate roof ridges. The temple pays tribute to the deities Sin Sze Ya and Si Sze Ya. The second, founded in 1873, was originally located near the old KL Railway station and it was moved to the current site in 1885. It is the oldest functional temple in KL and was recently given the honour of being the first ever to be portrayed on a postage stamp. This popular temple is credited with having 242 idols on its 'gopuram' (gateway) and it is the starting point of the yearly Thaipusam walking procession heading up Batu Caves.

From here, take the monorail back to Bukit Bintang and return to the hotel. (L)
