In this half day experience, get the chance play Petanque as well as dine at unique setting of Dyen Sabai, opposite the town of Luang Prabang. This experience is great fun, suitable for the whole family and uncovers the wonders and culture of Laos in a fun, hands-on way.
In the early afternoon, be picked up by the guide at the hotel to meet Laotian petanque amateurs. Form teams with them and while playing, snack on Lao food and have a drink.
Petanque is a form of boules. Players stand on a pitch and try to toss a metal ball as close as possible to a smaller ball called a ‘jack’ or to knock out their opponents’ balls. The game is usually played on hard surfaces such as dirt or gravel but in general, can be played just about anywhere, with the exception of concrete, asphalt or tiles which can break as a result of the balls being tossed on them.
The game originated in southern France in 1907 and was brought to Southeast Asia during the colonial period. It’s hugely popular in Laos and other parts of what was French Indochina.
The beauty of the game is that just about anybody, regardless of age, strength, height, or athletic ability can play. It is great fun and an excellent way to interact with the Lao people.
When the sun begins to set, be transferred to Dyen Sabai, set along the Nam Khan Rive.
Experience the traditional Laotian Sin Dat barbecue also known as the ‘Lao Fondue’, tasty and family- friendly.
After dinner you will be transferred back to the hotel. (D)
