Come discover a different facet of Vang Vieng, meeting a different culture, immersed in a picturesque landscape away from the crowds. Meet and learn about the history and traditions of the Khmu people, while supporting their lifestyle and sharing a mea
Today's activity offers an introduction to Vang Vieng and its many facets. At 10:00 AM, be picked up by a local guide and head out to the countryside on a Tuk Tuk. Reach the village called Ban Vieng Samai, where the Khmu minority and Lao people live together harmoniously.
Explore the village and observe the daily life here. A highlight is meeting a knife smith, an elder who uses traditional techniques passed down through generations to craft knives for his livelihood. There is an opportunity to try this skill firsthand. Enjoy a traditional Khmu lunch served in a local family’s garden (or indoors if the weather does not permit). During lunch, learn about the traditions and culture of animism, widely practiced by many ethnic minorities in Laos. Spend time conversing with the family and gain insight into the production of local rice wine, “Lao Hai.”
In the afternoon, a walk through rice paddies leads to a cave on the other side of the river, passing farmers working in the fields. A rest in a local rice hut provides the chance to sample rice wine and learn about the vital role of agriculture in Laos.
As the sun sets, return to the village before being transferred back to the hotel at approximately 16:30 / 17:00. (L)
