After breakfast, meet with the local guide and begin the exploration of Sokcho and surroundings by private, air-conditioned vehicle with a driver.

Start the day with a hike in Seoraksan National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Protection site that is home to Korea’s highest peak. Explore trails offering breathtaking views of rugged peaks, dense forests and tranquil streams  (the walk will take around 2 hours, moderate difficulty and follows trails of packed dirt and stairs).

Next, visit Abai Village, a North Korean refugee settlement known for its traditional charm. The word Abai means ‘uncle’ or ‘aged person’ in the local dialect. Wander through the old town and savour local dishes such as sundae and Hamheung naengmyeon. Pair the meal with a glass of soju or corn makgeolli for an even more authentic experience. While in Abai, there is the option to ride the Gaetbae ferry, a local boat that uses steel cables rather than an engine to move across the river.

This afternoon, head to Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion, a serene spot offering panoramic views of the East Sea. Nearby, explore Sokcho Lighthouse, to enjoy views of the coastal scenery and learn about the area's maritime history.

Continue with an insightful cultural visit to Naksansa Temple, a historic Buddhist site with beautiful architecture and ocean views. Wander through the tranquil grounds and visit the Hongnyeonam Hermitage and Uisangdae Pavilion, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea.

Later, relax at Naksan Beach. Take a leisurely stroll along the shore or simply unwind by the water’s edge.

As evening approaches, finish the day at Sokcho Central Market. Be immersed in the lively market atmosphere while exploring vibrant stalls offering fresh seafood, local produce and unique snacks. Try a selection of regional delicacies for dinner.

Transfer back to the hotel, concluding the day’s tour.  (L/D)
