This afternoon at 15:30, embark on a discovery of sake, otherwise known as Japanese rice wine, is produced through a brewing and fermentation process not unlike that used to make beer. Its exact origins are unclear, but sake in its modern form is thought to have originated in the Nara Period of Japanese history, 710 – 794. This alcoholic beverage so deeply enmeshed in the fabric of society and culture in Japan is now well-loved across the world, so much so that a day has been designated to celebrate it. In fact, October 1st is World Sake Day.
