Programme Details

Be immersed in Japanese culture with a traditional taiko lesson in Tokyo. Witness a skilled drummer beating drums of various shapes and sizes with theatrical movements in an unforgettable up-close performance.

After the performance, join a dynamic taiko workshop to learn more about the art of drumming. Get a short lesson about the origins of this 6th-century art form and its evolution over the centuries. Talk to the instructor about their personal experience of playing at traditional ceremonies, Japanese festivals, and other gatherings. 

Next, grab a pair of drumsticks and learn real taiko techniques. Try a variety of drums, from a handheld Okinawan model to the huge wadaiko drums. 

Finally, put it all together by performing a whole song using all of the rhythms and techniques learned in the lesson.

Before departing, take photos and videos to capture memories of this immersive, uniquely Japanese experience.
