Experience the refined cultural heritage of Susukino in Sapporo through an intimate evening combining traditional cuisine and geiko performance. Set in a historic ryotei restaurant, this experience offers rare insight into a disappearing tradition presented in a respectful and authentic setting.
Once one of Japan’s leading hanamachi, Susukino was home to a thriving geisha culture in the 1950s with hundreds of women entertaining in high-end restaurants. Today, only a small number remain, making the preservation of this cultural heritage increasingly important.
Meet the guide and travel to a historic ryotei restaurant set in a Taisho-era stone warehouse. A seasonal Hokkaido meal is served using local ingredients and Ainu-inspired tableware with cultural insights shared throughout the dinner.
During the meal, two geiko arrive to introduce etiquette, attire and art, followed by traditional dances and a classic ozashiki parlour game. The evening concludes at the restaurant after parting ways with the geisha and host. (D)
