Tonight’s tour begins with a meetup at 17:00 in front of Hotel Royal Classic Osaka, within walking distance of the many train lines that stop in the Namba Station area. The guide will be waiting to lead guests through an evening of classic Osaka cuisine in Namba, the city’s liveliest district.

Begin with a sampling of street food, with options like takoyaki octopus dumplings, piping hot karaage fried chicken, and of course some tasty confections. This opening salvo of savoury and sweet is what Osaka is all about, with a riot of flavours and sights unfolding as the tour meanders through the famous Ebisubashi shopping street.

Next, stop to try a staple of Osaka cuisine, crispy kushi katsu skewers of fried meat, vegetables, and other slices of fresh ingredients.

Take a break from the food and enter the backstreets away from the crowds. Stroll down narrow alleys past tiny bars where night time revellers come to unwind after work. See an intriguing backstreet temple where the main statue has been covered in decades of thick green moss.

Drop into another restaurant, a delicious robatayaki grill where large skewers of food are prepared fresh over charcoal in front of guests. A variety of meat, fish, and vegetable dishes are available here, served by the chef in the typically boisterous and welcoming style that Osaka is known for.

Take one more charming backstreet to end the tour in the heart of the famous Dotonbori district, the liveliest evening spot in all of Osaka, where the tour finishes with dessert. Should there still be room in your stomach – although this is doubtful – there are plenty of options for additional dining here.

Bid farewell to the guide, and either return to the hotel or continue exploring the area independently. (D)
