After meeting the guide, take the subway to Nagoya Castle, one of Japan's largest and most significant samurai fortresses. Built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty, this site offers a step into the world of the samurai. Explore the castle grounds and admire the exterior of the main tower, with its iconic golden Kinshachi roof ornaments that acted as symbols of power, before entering the Honmaru Palace, a meticulously reconstructed masterpiece of Edo-period architecture.

Next is the Tokugawa Art Museum, a museum that holds a collection of samurai armour, swords and historical artefacts passed down through the Tokugawa family. This section offers a deeper insight into the lifestyle, philosophy and traditions of the samurai class through rare historical exhibits.

End the tour with a visit to the Tokugawa Garden, a peaceful Japanese garden once part of the Tokugawa family's estate. Stroll the traditionally designed elegant landscape, where ponds, waterfalls and seasonal flowers create a serene atmosphere that reflects the samurai appreciation for nature.
