The morning begins with an early departure from Takayama. From there, travel through scenic mountain roads to reach the secluded village of Shirakawa-go. Upon arrival, the tour starts with a stop at the Shirakawa-go Viewpoint, offering great views of the thatched rooftops nestled against a dramatic alpine backdrop.

Next, dive deeper into the region’s history with a visit to a traditional farmhouse. These centuries-old wooden homes – built without nails and with roofs resembling hands in prayer – offer a rare glimpse into life in Japan’s harsh yet beautiful countryside.

The final stop is Hachiman Shrine, the spiritual heart of the village, set quietly among tall cedar trees. Here, the guide will share the local legends and Shinto customs still practiced today.

Return back to Takayama and continue the journey at a leisure.
