Discover the ancient forests of Yakushima on a day trip to Yakusugi Land. Explore lush mountain ravines, walk among millennial cedars and enjoy flexible walking routes tailored to preferred activity levels
Begin with a transfer to Yakusugi Land, a vast forest reserve situated 1,000 metres above sea level. Although less physically demanding than other trails on the island, the scenery is just as impressive. The island’s enormous old trees, often covered in green moss, offer an unusual and unique view. Enter the park to observe a collection of millennial cedars, including the famous Buddhasugi and Kugurisugi. Cross stable suspension bridges over clear mountain streams while enjoying the lush greenery of the ravine.
The excursion can be tailored on-site with your guide to suit your preferred physical intensity. Options range from a beginner-friendly walk along well-maintained wooden boardwalks and stone paths near the entrance, to longer courses that navigate natural forest floors and steeper terrain deeper into the ancient woods. Conclude the forest exploration and return to the hotel by vehicle. (L)
