There’s no better way to explore Ubud than through its rich cultural heritage. This walk offers an insightful introduction to the island’s rich and unique history as well as ancient heritage. Followed with an authentic Balinese temple located away from the usual tourist trail.
At first glance, Ubud’s bustling main street might seem like an unlikely place to uncover traces of “Old Bali,” but hidden gems await those who know where to look. A royal gate crafted by a 116-year-old sculptor. A mystical confluence of two rivers. A multi-tiered shrine honoring the gods. A tribute to the early collaboration between Balinese and Western artists. This walk takes you on a journey to discover the old within the new, exploring the layers of history woven into ‘modern’ Ubud. Along the way, we’ll delve into the evolution of this area, from its quiet suburban beginnings to becoming the vibrant heart of downtown Ubud.
Then proceed to Tampak Siring, to the private house of the Sukarno’s Museum former curator and the leading expert on the recent world heritage listed Pakerisan river area and its ancient temples and monuments. His life passion is giving back to the country that he loves and through his look documenting the Balinese culture since 1979. His successor will share his findings to help preserve the temples and monuments for future generations to enjoy.
Following with a delightful lunch set up within his house, sits amongst the rice field on a ridge to the sacred river of Pakerisan.
Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Bali, Mengening Temple stands as a sanctuary of spiritual rejuvenation and cultural heritage. This temple is an ancient site, a relic from the reign of King Marakata in 1022 AD. There are fascinating artifacts around this area, and several sacred springs can also be found here. In addition exploring the relics of ancient kings, join us for a self-purification journey, cleansing body and soul with sacred water while embracing Balinese traditions and nature's tranquility. This site will be our final visit on our trip today. (L)
