Meet the guide after breakfast and transfer by private, air-conditioned vehicle with driver to the southern part of Yogyakarta.

Spend the morning exploring a series of 18th century landmarks that represent the Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The axis reflects Javanese philosophical beliefs about life, the universe and harmony and represents the connection between humans, the Creator, and the cosmos.  During the tour, discover how these rituals and traditional practices are still integral to its cultural significance.

Begin at the southern end of the Cosmological Axis with a visit to Panggung Krapyak, a historic hunting lodge used by the sultans. Learn how it is symbolically linked to the Javanese philosophical concept of the cycle of life.

Continue toward the heart of the city, illustrating the stages of human maturation. Starting at Alun-alun Kidul, the southern square, this stop symbolises the transition from puberty to maturity, while the Sultan's Palace represents the growth into adulthood and responsibility.

Next, proceed to the Tugu Monument, which embodies the purity and clarity of a wise man's heart, before moving along Malioboro Street, a bustling commercial hub that represents the temptations and distractions encountered in life.

The last stop along the Axis is Yogyakarta’s Sultan Palace. Also known as the Kraton, the building symbolises the ultimate achievement of life. Here, the concept of Paraning Dumadi reflects the human journey toward unity with the Creator, marking the final destination of one's spiritual path.

The tour ends with a lunch that will be served at the local restaurant serving Javanese local dishes to taste. (L)
