Set today to engage more in the field about the natural consonance of Merapi Volcano and environs. Be picked up by the guide from the hotel in the morning after breakfast, drive to the north of Yogyakarta,

Go to the Gempa Museum (Earthquake Museum) to understand the evidence of earthquakes and mitigation in the area. Using a machine simulator and a miniature house, observe how the earthquake destroys the poor construction.

The tour continues with a stop at a village for a neighborhood walk. Learn the story of the Tyto Alba owl and its role in helping farmers catch harvest mice. Enjoy the sight of rice fields that stretch out before a bamboo minaret. As you pass through the village, observe local plants such as nutmeg, pepper, and candlenut, and feel free to greet the residents you encounter.

Witness the use of biogas fuel in a local home while enjoying a refreshing, freshly served coconut drink. Next, visit a local cheese artisan to sample their product, a source of local pride.

Enjoy lunch at the nearby restaurant in the midst of the bamboo groves.

This afternoon continues by a semi-convertible four-wheel drive jeep closer towards the lava fields. Here, Sisa Hartaku Mini Museum in Kinahrejo tells the tragic story of local communities that despite being warned of imminent eruptions in 2010 did not leave their villages on time. Molten computer screens, toys and pets that have been burned down to their skeleton strikingly show the dangers and importance of cooperation with the authorities monitoring volcanic activity in the countries along the Pacific Ring – the so-called Ring of Fire.
