Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest, featuring three ancient Hindu temples, jungle-covered pathways lined with mysterious statues and of course several groups of cheeky, indigenous macaques. Proceed to Pura Taman Saraswati, a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity of learning, literature and art. The temple was built by well-known Ubud artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, and has become one of the most photographed sites in Ubud, featuring a beautiful lotus pond at its front.

Right around the corner is Ubud Palace or Puri Saren Agung, the official residence of the royal family of Ubud. Well maintained, the palace features delicate stone decorations. Explore the front yard which is accessible to the public.

Then, stroll across Ubud market, where local vendors come to buy and sell exotic produce as well as handicrafts and textiles.

Escape the midday heat, with a visit to the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA). Marvel has the best permanent collection of Balinese and Indonesian art.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant with typical Balinese dishes. After lunch return to the hotel or choose to remain in town and return later on own arrangements. (L)
