Begin by driving along Ijen Boulevard to admire a residential area designed in 1935 by Dutch urban planner Ir. Herman Thomas Karsten. These grand tropical villas blend Indische, Art Dec, and Garden City styles, showcasing high ceilings, spacious verandas, expansive windows and distinctive geometric lines.

Next, stroll through Kajoetangan Heritage Village to explore an architectural mix of traditional Indonesian, Dutch Colonial, Nieuwe Bouwen and Jengki designs. Here, residents offer handmade crafts and local culinary specialties outside their homes, creating authentic opportunities for meaningful cultural interactions.

Proceed to Wisma Toemapel, originally known as the Splendid Inn and constructed in 1928 for Dutch elites. Its refined New Indische colonial structure overlooks the scenic Brantas River.

Head to a classic local eatery to savour renowned regional specialties.

Afterward, explore Jago Temple, a Hindu-Buddhist Tantrayana complex characterised by stepped terraces and intricate narrative reliefs, despite historical lightning damage to its upper level.

Conclude the tour at Singosari Temple, an East Javanese Hindu-Buddhist monument constructed from mountain andesite. Modeled after Mount Mahameru, the structure features a tiered pyramid roof and a hollow inner sanctum.

Finally, transfer back to the hotel. (L)
